EPISD’s Traveling Safari Visits Head Start

Head Start Children got a chance to be up close and personal with animals and creepy-crawlies from the El Paso Traveling Safari, an interactive mobile learning event sponsored by El Paso Independent School District.

The traveling Safari visits Head Start centers twice a year to teach children about various animals, animal safety, and care. Animals were on display for children to touch from turtles to guinea pigs and ferrets. The animal handlers answered children’s questions and explained about the critter’s diets and habits.

“The Traveling Safari is always a big hit with the kids,” says Head Start Family Services Worker, Annette Macias. “It not only teaches them about the different animals but about how to care for them responsibly. It also gives the children an opportunity to learn about different wild animals they may encounter or animals they may purchase as pets.”
